Terms of Use
1. Introduction
This page describes the terms and conditions (the “Terms”) that govern your use of cruxofcapitalism.com and the content, related services and products available on or through this website (including mobile applications and newsletters) and any updates, new versions or new releases of those services and products. Individually and collectively, we’ll refer to these services and products as the “Service”.
The Service is provided by the Swiss Institute for International Economics and Applied Economic Research, an affiliate of the University of St. Gallen, which we’ll refer to individually and collectively as “SIAW”, “we”, “us”, or “our”.
Please read this page carefully. By accessing, using and/or downloading the Service, you agree to be legally bound and consent to these Terms. If any of these Terms are unacceptable to you, you must stop using the Service.
2. Changes to Terms
From time to time, we may revise these Terms without giving prior notice. If we do make such revisions, we will post an updated version on this site. Any modification is effective immediately upon posting. Your continued use of the Service after the updated version has been posted will be conclusively deemed to signify your acceptance of any changes to these Terms. If you do not accept these changes, please stop using the Service.
3. Changes to Digital Products
From time to time, we may make changes to the Service without prior notice, which could include modifying, discontinuing, or disabling the Service. For example, we may automatically update or upgrade the version of the Service you may be using on your mobile device. You agree to any such changes and you agree that these Terms will apply to all such changes.

Please review our Privacy Statement below for a description of our privacy practices. By using our Services (including viewing our content), you acknowledge and agree that we may and will collect, use, and process your personal information as described in our Privacy Statement.
5. Copyright
All the materials on the Service — the text, photographs, video, audio, graphics, metadata, quotes, data, information, the overall “look and feel,” and all protectable intellectual property (collectively, the “Content”) - is the property of the SIAW.
The Service and Content are protected by copyrights, trademarks, design rights, database rights, and other intellectual or proprietary rights under Swiss and international laws. You agree that all intellectual property rights in the Service and the Content (in whole and in part) are and shall remain the property of SIAW and its suppliers. No intellectual property rights in the Content or in the Service are transferred to you.
6. Restrictions on Use
The Service and the Content is provided by SIAW to you for academic and non-commercial research purposes only. You may not use the Service or the Content for any commercial purpose without our prior written consent.
You promise that you are accessing, using, and/or registering to the Service in your personal, individual capacity. You agree not to use, transfer, distribute, and/or dispose of the Service or Content in any manner that could compete with the intentions of the SIAW.
Without our prior written consent:
- You may not use any robots, spiders, scripts, service, software or manual or automatic device, tool, or process designed to data mine or scrape the Content, data or information from the Service, or otherwise access or collect the Content, data or information from the Service using automated means.
- You may not reverse engineer, circumvent, decrypt, decompile, disassemble, modify, or otherwise attempt (using services, software, or any manual or automatic device, tool, or process) to alter or interfere with the Service, any feature or component of the Service, any restriction, condition, or technological measure that controls access to the Service in any way, or any content in the Service; or make any unauthorized use thereof.
- You may not do anything that imposes an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on our network or infrastructure.
7. Using the Content
Users may analyze and build on the Content, and publish own work based on the Content if the Service is properly cited:

If the following conditions are met, user’s work may be considered for publication on the Service:
- Have a wordcount of 1000-1500, not including references, footnotes, or tables,
- Ensure to include a list of authors at the top of the respective paper,
- Start by mentioning a current policy debate or concern,
- Analyze capitalism and related issues,
- Report results in words or charts / graphs (no regression tables and equations in the text) and direct readers to the underlying research for details,
- Target research-based work to existing policy debates with a level above newspaper opinion but more accessible than a journal article,
- Include references to illustrate the research basis of the analysis, commentary and opinions expressed,
- Cite someone else's work before you cite your own work,
- Include and format references as in academic papers,
- Send the work in a Word file to cruxofcapitalism@outlook.com and include xls, ppt, eps, or high-quality pdf files of figures.
8. Limitations of Our Service and Content
The Service and Content are provided for informational purposes only. You understand that the Content on the Service does not constitute any form of tax, legal, or investment advice or opinion regarding the suitability, value or profitability of any particular security, portfolio or investment strategy. The mention of a particular security on the Service does not constitute a recommendation for you to buy, sell, refrain from buying, or hold that or any other security, financial product, or investment.
We are not liable for any errors, inaccuracies, or delays in the Service or any Content, or for any actions taken by you in reliance on the Service or Content. You agree that your use of the Service or the Content is at your sole risk.

Privacy Policy
Your privacy is important. This Privacy Statement explains how we, the Swiss Institute for International Economics and Applied Economic Research, an affiliate of the University of St. Gallen, handle your personal information in connection with the website and the mobile application (we call these our “Services”). It applies generally to the following groups:
- Users (including prospective users),
- Third party business partners,
- Other individuals who interact with us or whose personal information we maintain.
This Privacy Statement does not apply to any website, application, product, or service that links to its own privacy statement or that is offered by third parties, in which clicking on third party links or enabling those connections may allow the third party to collect, use, or share data about you. We encourage you to read their respective privacy statements.
When accessing our Service, the following data is stored in log files: IP address, date, time, browser request and general information on the operating system. This usage data forms the basis for statistical, anonymous evaluations which help to identify trends, on the basis on which we can improve our offers accordingly.
We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. (“Google”). Google Analytics uses so-called “cookies”, text files which are stored on your computer, and which enable an analysis of website usage. The information generated by the cookie is usually transferred to a Google server in the USA and stored there. However, if the IP anonymization on this website is activated, your Google IP address will be first shortened within Member States of the European Union or in other signatory States of the agreement on the European Economic Area. It is only in exceptional cases that the full IP address is transferred to a Google server in the USA and shortened there.
Google will use this information to evaluate our Service, to compline reports on website activity for website operators, and to provide other services related to website and internet usage. If necessary, Google will transfer this information to third parties, provided that this is required by law or if third parties process this data on Google’s behalf. The IP address provided by your browser as part of Google Analytics will not be merged with other Google data.
